Phoebe and family,
Maxine and I want to express our most sincere condolences on the passing of Ray. Ray delivered meat to my parents Harvey and Marie Rideout for all of my childhood and when I became married he was our meat man as well. We often had a little chat on Saturday night when he would drop off the meat. Always pleasant, I can still see his smile and hear him chuckle at something funny Dad would say to him. There was also Phoebe and later Barry who would deliver on occasion. He also helped me buy a cow in my younger days and even delivered that to me. He was a friend to my uncle Gordon Petten and they arranged the purchase from a farmer near St John’s some place. I hope you all draw on each other during this difficult time. RIP Ray our meat man.

To Phoebe and family,
We are so saddened to hear of Ray’s passing.
Ray was a very well known, liked and most importantly, kindhearted man in the community. He was a longtime respected businessman of farming and butchery from a very young age. Ray was known to take great pride and care with his livestock and offered exceptional, top quality local products.
Ray, along with the help from his family, have been supplying our family business with local beef for over 30 years along with many other customers across the island. He was a man of great principles and honour and was very highly respected by other cultures with his willingness to work with, learn and accommodate any cultural/religious practices.
During the pandemic, he kept us well stocked with his delicious beef products. He would often joke and say it’s just as well he bring up the whole cow every week because we had such high demand but not once did he ever let us down. He always went above and beyond in everything he did.
We hope that the special memories you all hold, bring you comfort and peace in the difficult days ahead.
Our deepest condolences to you all, he will be greatly missed.

On behalf of my Mom Louise Batten Carolyn and family we would like to send our sincere condolences to each and everyone of you. Your father was a part of lives for many years. A longtime friend of dad and moms and our butcher every Friday morning. Delivering the best pork chops and white pudding ever made. My last memory of Ray was seeing the tears in his eyes for dad when he lost his friend, my dad. Dad would torment the living day lights out of Ray and Ray gave it back just as good. Dad always had the funniest stories of Ray. Now they can banter back and forth together. Old friends together again. This time we shed the tears for Ray. God bless you all.
