I so enjoyed working with Bob when he was Regional Director of the Western Region out of Brandon. We had great conversations about wildlife and he was supportive of my career. We also had some interesting matches at the tennis courts in Brandon. I remember one time when Bob & I were driving home one evening after attending a meeting in Dauphin. It was dark as we drove through the Riding Mountain National Park and he almost put us both in the ditch as he tried to avoid hitting a big bull elk. I will miss him. He was a good friend & colleague. My condolences to his wife Sheila and two sons Travis & Roger. I would like to know when he returns to Manitoba & if there will be a celebration of life at a later date as I would love to attend

Sheila & Family,
Please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of Bob. We have just heard of this sad news from a friend in Brandon.
Bob & I spent many hours together working out of the Western Regional Office in Brandon with many memories of sometimes difficult but many easy issues that rose everyday within the Region.
My Wife & I moved to New Brunswick this past July and I so looked forward to being able to visit You & Bob this summer.
He will be remembered and sadly missed.
Blair & Darlene

Hello Sheila and family:
Bob and I first crossed paths in Resolute Bay way back in the mid-1970s when Bob was flying endless aerial surveys and I was an aspiring caribou biologist. Then our paths re-crossed when we both worked for GNWT's wildlife department - Bob was a wildlife officer in Clyde River and I was still an aspiring biologist. We sat across or around the table at countless meetings (and maybe a few bar tables) over a couple of decades. And all the time, Bob's kindness and humor stood out which, coupled with his acute intelligence made him so special and so memorable. We both retired to opposite ends of Canada but I remember those wildlife days with a smile - he was such a gentleman.
With sympathy for you all.
Anne Gunn

Hi Sheila. Katarina's and my thoughts and love are with you during this new phase and challenging transition. We are ever grateful for yours and Bob's warm welcome to us when we returned to Yellowknife as two young, indebted graduates from Sweden with a 6month old daughter. It was a shock for Katarina to move into a shoddy YK-trailer, and your warmth and generosity with kitchen gifts and a quilt for Leontina were heartfelt and tremendously appreciated. Bob was, of course, my boss at the time - his swan-song period in the NWT with Gartner Lee Ltd.. This turned out to be his last gig in the north and the two of you retired to Newfoundland shortly after the ill-fated merger with the mega consulting company AECOM. Katarina and I thought of you often out east, quizzing Sue Windle for the periodic update and news. I hope your time together there in retirement was everything you had hoped for.
I will forever recall Bob as a wonderful man and character. Funniest guy around and always a mischievous twinkle. Inspiring. Had a quiet wisdom borne from an amazing breadth of northern experiences and could read a room like no other. A real class act man with a big heart and good head. He always had a story to share, and most of them started or ended with you or your kids. His love for you and family was obvious and he wore it proudly on his sleeve. May he keep enjoying the music and laughs over yonder!

I remember Bob well from his times helping out at the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum.
I had always hoped our paths would cross again.
So long Bob it was good to know you.

Fellow Snow Laker Don Radford here. So sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He lived just down the street from me. I knew Bob quite well. Terribly smart guy, great sense of humour, give you the shirt off his back.
Many good memories, particularly one winter in high school when Bob and I worked a trap line as part of the Junior Trappers Program in SL. He was a great partner and even then showed his bush and wildlife smarts. I wasn’t surprised he chose the career he did.
Glad I was able to reconnect with Bob at Snow Lake reunions and spend some time remembering the many good times.
My condolences to the family.
