We shall miss Cynthia tremendously. She was such a generous, kind and loving person. Few people found the joy and passion in reading and discovery as she did - the kind of teacher that so many would look back years later and say “she was my favorite”. A doting and loving mom and grandmother she treated us as one her own on every holiday visit. We love you Cynthia.

Susan Bonnell and the Haines families: Sorry to read of Cynthia's death. She was a good person in so many ways. Always loving and giving, whether to her students in school or members of her choirs, Cynthia always strove to bring out the best people had. She had a way of lighting up a room with her presence and everyone was better in the end because of her presence. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Cynthia was a wonderful friend for close to 50 years, and a very kind and talented lady. She will be missed by many.

To the extended Gill family:
There is a saying in education circles:
“Students don’t care how much you know;
they want to know how much you care.”
Cynthia Gill cared deeply for every student that she ever taught; cared for people she met at church or in a choir.
Her generosity of spirit radiated through her family and into the wider community.
She will be missed.

Tears of sadness to the Gill and Haines families. Cynthia was such a friendly and a great person. We had so many chats and laughs during our time at Upper Gullies Elementary. Then after retirement I would chat with her at Bingo or in the supermarket. She would always tell me what Dave was up to or Susan and Ken, then the grandkids. Cynthia you will always be remembered.

Susan, Ken , and families,
Thinking back over the years when Cynthia and I as young teachers drove back and forth to MUN doing evening courses. There was always lots of chatter and chuckles and stories about David. Some time later, we visited the same hairdresser and I loved it when our appointments coincided as we would catch up with family news. She was so proud of you all and enjoyed filling me in all of your latest adventures and Dad’s misadventures. She was a great lady and you will miss her dearly. Both Heber and I send our deepest sympathies.

Dear Susan, Ken and all your family,
When we both think of the people whose friendship we appreciate so much, Cynthia is among the best. Of course, it was the” team “, she and Dave made it so great. I remember especially the wonderful relationship we had at school. I was her boss but that didn’t matter to Cynthia; she was the one who gave me the orders and I loved every minute. I knew that whatever her position was on any issue, it came from a heart of gold. We extend our deepest condolences to you all.
May God’s Blessings be with you on the loss of your loved one.

Ken & Family,
I was so sad to hear of your Mom’s passing! I was blessed to be one of the hundreds of children she taught over the years…she was my Kindergarten teacher at Upper Gullies and remained one of my most favourite teachers! Ironically your Dad also taught me at MUN! I had the opportunity to chat with her at a wedding the year before last, and was delighted when she remembered me…thought she had to ask which Jefford I was (Jennifer or Valerie). We had a great catch-up!
My thoughts and prayers are with you, your sister and family in the days ahead.

I will miss you dearly but know it was your time to leave. Fly high with the Angels my Friend. In my heart forever.

On my first day of teaching Grade One at Upper Gullies, Cynthia showed her wisdom and leadership in dealing with a little boy who was standing outside my classroom, looking in but refusing to come in, despite my encouraging best efforts. Cynthia, knowing the child from kindergarten the previous year, put her hand on his shoulder and said, “You go on now; you’re going to be okay.” Mission accomplished.
Thank you, Cynthia for always being so willing and capable in helping to get us where we needed and wanted to be in our learning.
Susan, Ken & Family:
As I reflect back on your mother’s words of direction and confidence, I send them echoing back to you today.
“You’re going to be okay.”
With sincere sympathy and my deepest respect,

One of the many reconciliations I have of her is the time she took me on my first road trip. I was only about 12 years old and my school girlfriend had moved to Bonavista, she was going to Bonavista for the weekend and asked if I would like to visit my friend .. I was so excited and thankful for her offer. I have never forgotten it.
